Work hard, be kind, and amazing things will happen.” - Conan O'Brien |
Hello, my name is Jacob Smoot. I was born and raised in Northern California and have a master's degree in Sports Management from Colorado Mesa University, with a minor in Business Administration. I chose the quote to the left because it is a perfect representation of how I live my life. I have always been a dedicated worker, and I hold myself accountable for all my work. Also, a goal of mine is to make people happy, especially through laughter. A combination of both of them has resulted in the amazing life that I am currently living. In this website, who will find out my short and long-term aspirations and how I plan to reach them.
Why Sports Management? When I was a sophomore in High School, I signed up for a class called 'Intro Sports and Entertainment Marketing'. I was intrigued. Taking that class was the best decision I have ever made. Not only was I learning about things that I have been recently covering in some of my classes at CMU, but I also got really involved at my school in the publishing and advertising department. Learning the ins and outs of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, along with all of the Microsoft Suites, I was creating advertisements for local businesses to hang inside the basketball gymnasium and the programs for both the football team and the largest dance show at my school. While attending Colorado Mesa, I held a Digital Content and Social Media Creator internship with the CMU Athletic Department. I held this internship in the Spring of 2018 and through 2019, and had been creating content for CMU's women's volleyball team while on staff (2018-2020). The graphics I created for that internship are in the folder, marked "Gallery". Currently I am employed through the State as a Budget Analyst, looking to work my way up through the corporate ladder. I also coach youth volleyball in the Northern California region, as a Head Coach for Granite Bay High School and with Aspire Volleyball Club. Coaching has always been a passion of mine, ever since I stopped playing the sport I love. The Varsity position is the most recent endeavor, checking off another level of coaching. |
